Isabels berättelse utspelar sig 1994, på det mycket turbulenta Kuba. Hon och hennes familj hoppas kunna finna trygghet och frihet i Amerika, där de seglar på en flotte.
Mahmoud kommer från Syrien, där våld och förstörelse rådde 2015. Detta är anledningen till att hans familj och han själv flyttade mot Europa.
Alla tre tvingas lämna allt bekant bakom sig i sin jakt på en bättre framtid.
