Buying Guide: Step-by-step bicycle maintenance & lubrication

Routine maintenance doubles component lifespan and ensures smooth, quiet riding. Tormino carries over 6,000 maintenance supplies ready for dispatch.

1. Always Degrease Before Lubricating

Adding fresh oil to a grimy chain creates a grinding paste that rapidly destroys cassettes. Clean with a degreaser from Simson or Muc-Off, wipe dry, then apply one drop per roller.

2. Dry Lube vs. Wet Lube

Dry Lube (wax/PTFE based) repels dust during dry summer rides. Wet Lube clings through persistent rain and winter conditions.

3. Disc Brake Cleaners Prevent Squealing

Any oil or spray on disc rotors drastically reduces braking. Use a residue-free brake cleaner and never touch rotor tracks with bare fingers.

4. Carbon Assembly Paste

Carbon components require friction compound with micro-beads, enabling safe clamping at 4-6 Nm with a torque wrench without cracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expert guidance on chain lubrication, brake care, and workshop maintenance

In dry weather, lubricate every 200-300 km or whenever the chain sounds dry. After wet or muddy rides, clean, dry, and re-lube immediately to prevent surface rust.
No, multi-use WD-40 is a solvent and water dispersant, not a dedicated chain lubricant. It strips internal factory grease. Always use bicycle-specific chain oil from Simson or Muc-Off.
Use tire levers to unhook the bead, locate the puncture, lightly sand the area, apply vulcanizing glue, wait 1 minute, and press the patch firmly. Or swap in a fresh inner tube.
Squealing is almost always caused by road contamination on the rotor or pads. Degrease the rotor with dedicated brake cleaner and lightly sand the pad surface.
