Description
The book describes the fortunes of a Drenthe border village during the Second World War, from the point of view of the two friends Wim and Geert. One day they happen to overhear a conversation between two Germans, which reveals that the Netherlands will be invaded the next day. They warn their parents and indeed, the next day there is war.
The friends gradually become involved in all kinds of resistance activities: preventing goods from being requisitioned, sabotaging a traitor's car, hiding paratroopers and a Jewish woman. Geert, Wim and everyone who supports them do everything they can to protect the village and make it as difficult as possible for the Germans.
