The Arduino UNO is a microcontroller based on the ATmega328. With 14 Digital I/O pins, a 16MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, power jack, ICSP Header, and a reset button, the Arduino UNO has everything a microcontroller needs onboard; simply connect it to a computer or an AC/DC adapter and it's ready to use. New to the Uno compared to its predecessors is that the FTDI USB-to-serial driver has been replaced by an ATmega16U2 (ATmega8U2 up to version R2), which is programmed as a USB-to-serial converter.
