The taste is mild, slightly nutty and a bit earthy. When cooked, quinoa softens but remains slightly crunchy. It is used as an alternative to rice or couscous in salads, hot dishes and bowls. Quinoa is popular for its high nutritional value and versatility in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

Quinoa is one of the few plant foods that contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete source of protein. It is also rich in fiber, iron, magnesium and antioxidants. Quinoa is naturally gluten-free, making it an excellent choice for those on a gluten-free diet. Before cooking, it is advisable to first rinse quinoa to remove the natural bittering substance saponin. The grains cook in about 15 minutes and have a light, fluffy texture that pairs well with both savory and sweet dishes.
