Japanese medlars are small, oval fruits with a thin orange to yellow peel and juicy flesh. They have a sweet, slightly fresh taste reminiscent of a mix of apricot, peach and citrus. Inside there are usually some large kernels that are inedible. Japanese medlars are often eaten fresh, but also used in jam, desserts and sometimes in liqueurs. They are popular in warm climates and are known for their aromatic scent and soft texture.
