Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives, sharing more than 98 percent of our genetic blueprint. Humans and chimpanzees are also thought to share a common ancestor that lived between four and eight million years ago. Although they normally walk on all fours (knuckle-walking), chimpanzees are able to stand and walk upright. Swinging from branch to branch also allows them to move quite efficiently in the trees, where they find most of their food.
