Starting in October/November, you can start supplementing your feed with carbohydrates and fats to build vital body fat reserves. This will help them survive the long, cold nights.
Suet, marrowbones, cooking fat, grated cheese, bacon rinds, cakes, and pastries also contain a lot of fat. Never give dehydrated coconut meat or uncooked rice, as these can swell in the bird's stomach, often with fatal consequences. Soak dried-out bread in water first.

When tits stuff their chicks with peanuts from the feeder net in spring, they quickly die. The peanuts don't digest in the chicks' stomachs. With their full stomachs, they lose their hunger, stop begging, and become cold and eventually die. So, stop in time.

Don't hang or place the food in direct sunlight, preferably near suitable lookouts and dense shrubs. Don't place it too close to fences or sturdy trees because of cats. A shelter will prevent the food from getting wet or blowing away.
