From DisplayPort 1.4 onwards, HDR (High Dynamic Range) support is available, providing more vivid images, deeper colours, and better contrast – especially useful with 4K screens with 10-bit colour. Version 1.4a added Adaptive Sync, a technology that enables variable refresh rates and prevents tearing, which particularly benefits gamers via FreeSync or G-Sync. DisplayPort 2.0 and 2.1 build on this with higher bandwidth and improved HDR performance at higher resolutions.
