Its bright body colour protects it from predators. It may look beautiful, but taking a bite out of it is not a good idea. Oh, a fire salamander! If you see this magnificent amphibian species in the woods or along a stream, consider yourself lucky. It usually goes out at night. During the day, it prefers to hide in a hole in the ground or in a cave. Its black and yellow pattern may be very striking, but most animals keep their distance. This is because it is poisonous. This particular specimen, however, allows itself to be safely petted by friends.
