Pumpkins and gourds

Pumpkins often have sweet, soft flesh and are used in soups, purees, casseroles, desserts and pastries. Gourds are sometimes eaten, but are also often used as decoration or utensils when they dry hard. They are especially popular in fall and winter cooking because of their rich flavor and versatility.
