Cherries are small, round drupes with smooth skin that can be red, dark red or almost black. They have juicy flesh and a sweet or slightly sour taste, depending on the variety. There is a hard seed in the middle that is inedible. Cherries are often eaten fresh, but also used in desserts, pies, jams, juices and sauces.
